Poem: The Tides of my Emotions
I am,
like the sea.
Sometimes my tides are low,
sometimes they are high.
Unmet needs.
Touched out.
Sleep deprived.
Here come,
the surges and swells.
Raging seas,
Are on the horizon.
Waves thrashing against the seawall.
Tossed in the turbulence,
of my Inner storm.
Breathe,
take a,
Breath.
then ten more.
Long, slow, deep.
A hand on my heart,
one on my womb.
I surrender to the power
sinking deep,
allowing myself to be swallowed,
down into the dark,
of my soul.
I've found the calm,
in the eye,
of my storm.
Suspended like a curious Mermaid,
witnessing air bubbles that encapsulate,
my pain, exhaustion, and frustration.
They escape me rising towards the
surface, my energy in motion.
My ocean of,
e-motion.
Then, suddenly I'm washed ashore.
Tumbled like sea glass,
I feel shiny and smooth.
The sea recedes.
I follow the path of the golden light.
Once again,
I know,I am more than alright.
I'm more than enough,
even when my seas get rough.
For rough seas remind me to be grateful,
for the warm breeze.
My ocean of emotions,
make me a human.
I am a human, who touches the divine.
To do so I must only escape the prison,
of my mind.
Practice— The Energy of Emotions
Upon waking rate your energy on a scale of 1-10 and check in with your emotional state, what are your first thoughts and what are the emotions behind these thoughts?
Throughout the day, witness your emotions as they occur, inviting more awareness of your inner experience. The idea is to witness with curiosity, openness, acceptance and love; no judgement.
If you are able, document your observations in a journal. Include notes around sensations in your body that accompany the emotions that you experience: location, what it feels like, thoughts that come with the emotions. Also, notice what situations and experiences cause reactivity and examine what your belief is behind the trigger.
Example– you might notice you become increasingly irritable when everything you say to your children, seemingly all your requests are being met with deaf ears and resistance. Perhaps you feel triggered by this because you carry the story “nobody ever listens to me.”
At the end of the day rate your energy again on the same scale 1-10, once noting your emotional state.
Repeat for at least three days to a week, looking for any trends of emotions, sensations and thought patterns.
With this information you can really start to honor your body's needs and shift thought patterns and behaviors that suck energy from your system. By bringing your awareness to your emotions you have the capacity to uncover the limiting beliefs behind your habitual thoughts and behaviors. You can shift your emotional state consciously.
Enjoy!
I see you, I hear you, I feel you, I love you.
